To love art:
You can't just judge art by what's on the canvas.
You must learn about what is behind the signature in order to really understand the work. A small explanation goes a very, very long way.
To be an artist:
I will quote my best friend
"Just make sure you can bullshit the bullshitters."
That is what it all really comes down to in the end. Without those people you're getting $100 for what you're putting your life and soul into.
So, think of a good explanation and you're set :)
I agree to an extent...I mean, sometimes art does require some explanation to fully understand it, but it's disheartening to have to suffer through explanation-dependent art while not being able to call it "bad" art, or even "not" art, without being looked at like you just punched a baby.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that as an artist, I'll never be able to directly cure cancer (there's always the hope of inspiring someone else to do it, as unrealistic as that may be), but to advertise this fact so blatantly with explanation-dependent art seems irresponsible, and even just a little mean.
